If you follow trailers for new games, you’ll often see people who work on the games talking about why this new one is going to be good. Most of the time they emphasize how much FUN it’ll be, how easy it will be to learn, how enjoyable the experience is!¬†Every word they speak is designed to draw in a wide audience by making it appear as appealing as possible.

I was very glad to see the new director of Dark Souls 2 not going that route, and instead speaking passionately about how hard, unfair, and evil the game would be. It gave me hope that there’s a chance he really gets what made the games so great!

Overwhelming odds, a complete lack of hand-holding, and rich rewards for mastery and exploration!

Now if they’d just model the next Zelda game after something similar… A man can dream can’t he?
